Why we give

Our philosophy of generosity

Abundance, Generosity and Giving are not synonyms. Abundance is a belief; Generosity is an attitude and Giving is an act. At The Unity Center, we recognize that we are co-creators with Spirit and are responsible for using our gifts from Spirit not only as a means of realizing our fullest potential, but also in service to making our world a better place for everyone

  • Abundance is the belief (knowing) that our prosperity is derived from an infinite Source and is measured on the material, mental, emotional and spiritual plains.

  • Generosity is the willingness to share with others, based on our discernment of priorities, that often involves a personal challenge.

  • Giving is the act of releasing something of value to us in order to serve a higher purpose.

Money is never neutral. It either draws us closer to, or moves us away from, our own Spirit within. How we choose to spend our money reveals our values, what we hold dear and our true priorities. So, Abundance, Generosity and Giving matter as part of our spiritual journey. The time we collectively invest in helping others understand, embrace and practice these principles produces a deeper spiritual life for the giver and those the giver supports.

Our practice of giving

Unity teaches that Spirit is the Divine Infinite Source and that “I Am” the individualized manifestation of Spirit. Consequently, “Abundance” is our finite human experience of the Infinite. “When we start to practice the spirit of opulence through giving, the law of attraction will increase the inflow of BOTH non-material AND material abundance into our lives.” To champion generosity is to champion an important component of our spiritual growth.  As we travel this Generosity Journey individually and collectively, we invite you to join us in becoming “Generosity Champions”!

  1. We believe Giving is a core expression of becoming awakened in Spirit.

  2. We believe that Giving is a matter of intentional spiritual practice.

  3. We teach and encourage Giving without pressure and also without apology.

  4. We believe Giving is an indicator of spiritual growth and a generous heart; a means of uplifting the wider community.

  5. We will not mix Giving with personal promotion.

  6. We believe our abundance results from our Giving and the Law of Circulation.

  7. We believe and expect spiritual awareness to flow to us in direct response to our Giving.

  8. We believe that Giving is a spiritual decision rather than a financial one.

  9. We believe that Giving is a heart issue and reveals our priorities, loyalties and affinities.

  10. We are grateful for all that we become, have, receive and are capable of co-creating, through Giving.

You have choices when you give to The Unity Center

General Fund

The general fund is the operating account for The Unity Center. All recurring donations and other gifts are deposited to this fund unless otherwise directed. This account covers not only the general operating and program costs of The Unity Center, it also supports The Center’s philanthropic outreach: Micro-Loans, community-based causes, fair trade organizations, etc. A thriving and healthy general fund is a necessary component for all faith-based organizations.

Be sure “General Fund” is selected on the drop-down menu.

Roof Replacement Fund

Our spiritual home is over 30 years old and so is the roof. It has been patched and repaired over the years to address inevitable leakage, but has now reached the point where a full replacement is required. Due to the size of the roof and the numerous solar panels that will have to be removed and reinstalled, the quote for this job exceeds $250,000. Funding this need is as important to our community as any other cause. Why? Leaky roof equals moldy, wet sanctuary.

Legacy Circle Fund

The message of Unity is what inspires us and what allows this church to exist. Your membership in our Legacy Circle provides estate gifts that will be used to endow the church and allow for its existence 100 years from now.  These gifts are made from your estate and are directed by your will or trust, a beneficiary designation, or transfer-on-death title. If you desire to see this church last for multiple generations, please consider becoming a member of The Unity Center Legacy Circle.

Or email John Jenkins, our Legacy Circle chairman, directly.
