About Our Minister, Rev. Wendy Craig-Purcell…

Among the first members of the Association for Global New Thought (AGNT), Wendy helped design and participated in all three AGNT-sponsored “Synthesis Dialogues,” which brought together some of the world’s leading thinkers to dialogue with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharmsala, India. Additionally, her work with AGNT took her to Istanbul, Turkey as part of the planning for the Abraham Path Initiative and to Tokyo, Japan to present at the Goi Peace Foundation’s Symposium on “Igniting the Divine Spark.”

In 1999 she was given the Gandhi Non-Violence Award from the Tariq Khamisa Foundation, in 2000 she was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. Preachers Hall of Fame at Morehouse College and in 2014 she was presented with the Light of God Expressing Award, a life-time achievement award for her dedicated work in the Unity movement.

With a strong interest in spiritually motivated social action, Wendy and The Unity Center community were instrumental in the formation of the San Diego Department of Peace. It has since become Americans for the Department of Peace (AFDOP) and now encompasses all of Southern California. More recently, building upon the racial equity work she began in 2017, she has been at the very center of the founding of The AntiRacism Institute she helped launch in 2020 and serves on its Board.

Ever since hearing the Dalai Lama say that a powerful way to make a difference in the world is to "travel and make friends," Wendy has made travel an important part of both her personal and professional life. She and her family have traveled throughout Europe, Africa, and Central and South America.
